I myself would not try this if what I stated was true about only connecting @ the laser burnt ends, my guess is there would not be much for the tape to grab a hold of.
What I might try if I was him is drill the super glue out then scrape the edges with an rasor knife
& then fill the hole with windsheild repair paint just to use what I already own & may work the best.
