My Western Digital 13.6 gig hdd has been acting up so WD sent me a new one under warrantee. I used thier Data Lifeguard to quickly and easily copy the data from the old hdd to the new one.

Everything went really smoothly, but now I'm having one minor glitch. I'm getting a floppy seek at boot up and randomly when I scroll the START, PROGRAMS list. It may also happen at other times but I just made the hdd swap an hour ago so I haven't done that much with the computer yet.
At boot up the floppy seek occurs after Windows is completely loaded, with Norton Anti-virus, sound and monitor options the only icons by the clock in the lower right hand corner. I have no programs other than Norton Anti-virus starting at boot up...I try and keep as little running in the background as possible.

To look for the problem I've tried:

1. Turning off Norton Anti-virus. Did not solve the problem. Making sure "scan A drive on bootup" is disabled. It was off.

2. Disabling Norton Anti-virus and rebooting without it autoloading. Did not solve the problem.

3. Running MSConfig and looking for startup issues....didn't see anything unusual. I could post what was I there if someone thinks that would be useful.

4. Ran Norton Win Doctor to look for drive errors...there were none (I just ran this the other day and fixed 2 or 3 minor things).

5. Ran RegClean....didn't fix the problem.

5. Made sure I've got FLOPPY SEEK AT BOOT UP disabled in the BIOS. Boot sequence is C, A, CDRom.

Again, this was not happening before I used the WD DataLifeguard software to copy the drive. WD tech says they haven't a clue. Only suggested a reinstall of Windows, which I'll do if I don't come up with any other suggestions.

As always thank you all for your help.

BH Davis
