Sorry about the mix-up, I have a Pioneer SCSI slot DVD drive that states that it can read most of any media, however this drive was working for about 4 years. TDK, Memorex, Maxell, Fuji, Imation, it is all the same slow access problem.
It seems not to spin-up correctly with CD-R media. You can hear it spin-up and down several times while accessing a CD-R. Eventually, it does give me the disk directory list.

BTW, how would one find out if the power supply spiked. I already lost my main HD. Clicking spindle... I sure hope that my DVD did not meet this same fate.
