Did you have ACPI turned on in the BIOS when you did your install? If it was off, that would explain the "Standard PC" listing.

I think #1 and #2 are related. APM = Advanced Power Management. I've given up trying to figure out power management. I leave APCI set to "on" in the BIOS, but disable all the options I can, and don't let my system go into suspend mode. On/off is enough variety for me.
