Actually, if your speedometer isn't working, I think you can get cited for driving an unsafe vehicle I don't think I'd want to risk it

Speaking of bizarre speeding stories...

I know a guy from Los Angeles who works at a Starbucks, one morning he slept through his alarm when he was supposed to be responsible for the 5:30am opening shift. So he wakes up just past seven, thinks "Oops...", and takes off in his Saturn at speeds up to 120. Coming over a rise at about 95, he thinks to himself, "I bet there's a cop over that hill..." and yup, there IS a cop over that hill.

So the cop pulls him over, having probably clocked him at 85 at LEAST, in a 50mph zone, and asks him "Do you know how fast you were going?"

He figures he's done either way, so he looks the cop straight in the eye and responds evenly, "About 120 miles per hour, officer."

The cop gives him a sideways look. "Care to explain why you were traveling so fast?"

"I'm really late for work and the store, which was supposed to open over an hour ago, is still closed."

The cop peers into the car and then notices the green Starbucks apron partially concealed under the jacket he was wearing. He asked, "You work at Starbucks?"

"Yes, sir."

"Which one?"

So he gives the address, the cop thinks it over, then gives him a wry smile and says, "Well, I guess you had better get to work then, eh?" and summarily lets him go with a warning.

Later that day, the cop came by and bought a cup of coffee
