Problem with XP load time - update

Thinks for the input from my first post. I tried some of the suggestions last night but nothing helped. Running out of idea I unplugged the dsl modem from the nic card and rebooted and bang, it worked great. I could immediately do anything from the main screen after reboot. I hooked the dsl modem back up to the nic and rebooted and once again I have to wait 30 to 60 seconds before I can do anything. The lights blink on the modem during this time so it is trying to do something over the network. Does anybody know if there is an option that might be turned on that I can change so this will stop. I'm using the PPPOE that came with XP. Do you think changing to a different PPPOE might help?
