It is possible to go back to Fat32 after nuking a drive with NTFS. Make the emergency disks, (4), from a Win2K machine and run them on your NTFS machine. Win2K will try to setup your system. Point it to the drive you want to turn back and it will give you the option to use FAT32 or NTFS to install. Tell it Fat32 and after it formats, quit the installation.
This worked for me and I was able to go back to XP and setup a dual boot with Win98.
