New system time

Ok, time for a new system. Want to give my wife the old Athalon 800 for her office, take her old C400 to the cnc router and put a new machine on my office / CAD desk.

I want to go with Intel this time, and guess the P4 2gig chip is the one. But how close is the 2.2gig chip to being available. Not that I'm that concerned about the extra 10% speed....it's just that the 2gig chip should drop a good bit in price when the 2.2 comes out.

I know everyone is going to say why not Athalon XP1900. As I discussed here about 6 months ago I and others seem to have had problems with the AMD chips and the computer controled (cnc) machines and their related software.

So, is the P4 still a dead end as it was back then? I know you can get it with mb's that take PC133 ram now. But would everyone still say I'm nuts to go with a P4?
