It would be a good idea to re-install when getting a new mobo. I have had problems with IDE drivers not detecting or working properly after switching mobos. WINXP is the first OS from MS that is hardware accelerated so the faster the machine, the better it runs.
I have XP on my Athlon 1800+ and it rocks. I didn't need to install any drivers for any componenets, XP recognized them all and installed them during setup. Although I did put in the new Detonator drivers for my geforce3....
