I've received the "Install this software" email from Charter Pipeline, and just for kicks I went ahead and installed it. Since they are withholding any kind of useful configuration information, I figured I would go in after installation and check out the settings it installed. Well, it didn't do anything but enable DHCP. Didn't even change my computer name or workgroup info. The only thing I can see that it did was add a new POP3 email account to Outlook and change my default homepage.

After checking my net config, I verified that everything is the same as it was before: DNS, DHCP, Gateway, IP. All the same numbers, not a damn thing has changed. So it seems to me that they are getting everyone pointed at the right homepage and mail accounts, enabling DHCP for auto configuration, then they are going to flip the switch one of these days and BAMMO! -- something is going to be different. Fatter pipe, skinnier pipe, longer pipe? Whoe knows... Hopefully it's better, cuz my @home was about as close to lag as I can handle.

Cummon lucky 7's.........
