I'm not saying @Home was the greatest broadband service ever, but being switched to Charter Pipeline makes me appreciate it even more. Right now I'm spending $50+ a month for what amounts to 2x dial up speeds. I've been told that this is only temporary and we'll be back up to full speed (1500 down/128 up) soon. We'll see.

Hey, look at this piece of paper on my desk that says "Ameritech DSL" and has a phone number next to it. How'd that get here?

With @Home I had (on average) 2Mbps download and 1Mbps upload. On early Sunday mornings I could get 50% more bandwidth. This is nearly 2 T1's all to myself!!

From everything I'd read about the situation, all @Home had to do to save itself from oblivion was charge $1.50 more per month for each user and they'd still be around. My guess is the cable companies got greedy, let @Home self destruct, and now they can swoop in like the vultures that they are and pick up the pieces of the carcass, ensuring a locked in market and more profits.
