I have recently experienced very slow boot times in WIN 98SE, to the point where it is getting absurd. It takes some 6 minutes to boot up from beginning, and all of that time is spent in loading the OS. I really believe I have isolated the problem. I believe that something really weird is happening with my Maxtor 30GB ATA66 hd. I have run WINBENCH 99 (best i could do. HDTACH causes my computer to crash) and gotten absolutely absurd numbers like disk access times in the 45 millisecond range, disk throughputs at like .44 MB/s and CPU ulitization numbers in the negatives (-1.36%). I am totally lost. Here is all i can tell you. With the Maxtor drive on the primary master of my motherboard, and an IBM 13.6 gb drive as its slave... the IBM drive will get normal numbers... ie 13.1 millisecond access, 21 MB throughput. So, recap... One disk is getting lousy numbers while the other is getting numbers inline with what i would expect from it. Does anybody think that the maxtor drive could just have went bad? Or is there some other possibility?

Oh yeah... System info
Athlon XP 1600
Epox 8KHA+
512 MB PC2100
etc..

I am just confused.
