Monitor Question

I've got a dumb question: My Father in Law just bought a large monitor (I haven't seen it yet-but it's suppose to be a 21 or 24 inch), he says it has a monitor connector that "looks" like a PS2 connector(TV out?). Since I haven't worked with various monitors, I was wondering what type of Video card it takes or is it for something all together different? He bought it from a friend, that couldn't use it. He wants me to get it going over the holiday, but can't help him without some input. Thanks!
