Due to the higher security of luggage checks, they may have decided to
go the route of using someone they had planted in the airport work force
much earlier who has access to the plan itself. Remember they have had
a long time to get their pieces into place. As far as why this flight,
who knows? Perhaps a flight bound for an overseas destination was thought
a little less likely to be thoroughly checked. Perhaps they wanted to
cause maximum disruption by being random with the type of flights they
might attack. So one would never know what kind of plane or destination
might be hit.

Yes, airline disasters do occur occasionally in the U.S. But to have one
happen in New York City itself, on almost the exact date of the two month mark
since the Sept. 11th attacks? That alone makes the chances of it happening
by accident far, far lower.
