Stranger coincidences have happened in history, the possibility of sabotage occuring at the engine itself seems less likely what with the current state of security and all.

If a bomb were to go off, it seems to me that it would be much easier to get it into the cargo bay (luggage containing C4 in some sort of hermetically-sealed plastic bag, for example).

Also apart from a random act, what the odds be of a plane heading for the Dominican Republic being subjected to an attack? There's no obvious political or social message in it. And is it statistically unusual that a crash would occur about this time? The 9-11 attacks aside, it's been quite some time (if memory serves) since a major airline disaster occurred in US airspace.
