Make sure it logons utilizing M$ Networking. The other ones tend to interfere with a proper network. You can do the Family Logon and the other one (can't think what it's called), but make sure you get TweakUI to Log On to the network automatically.
And of course, You have to Logon onto the network using your logon and password. No Cancel or X-ing of the box under Win9x.
Other than that are you using straight through cables or crossover cables? If plugged into the router make sure you use straight through cables.
