These stupid hardware reinstalls NEVER go as well as they're supposed to. This time, my 20GB drive blew up (grrrr...)
Prior to installing my new 40GB part, I had noticed that the 20 had gotten a tad noisier than when I first owned it, but I didn't think TOO much of it. Then it sat in storage for a while, today I pulled it out so I could use the NT installation on it to perform a couple quick odd-jobs with my 40 (namely, I have to do a bizarre file work around to get past the fact that NT, as shipped, cannot deal with a 40GB drive partitioned past 8GB, but the problem was fixed in a later service pack.
Then I got a S.M.A.R.T.-HDD warning...and the drive is now behaving screwy (insert lightning and thunder here)
caaaaarrrrpppp, I wanted to use that thing as a base for the secondary system that will be built with my Tbird setup once the Athlon XP upgrade is completed...
