Ok, I did just what you suggested, and shorted the battery for about 1 hour to drain every drop out I could.

I then unshorted the battery, threw in a PCI video, and finally got a boot up.

Now, the beauty of MSI:

I had a copy of bios version 1.8 on a bootable floppy. Fortunately MSI made their last K7-Pro bios autoexecuting on boot, so even if I didn't have functional video, if my machine would boot at all, then my floppy would reflash the mainboard.

I now have my 1 GHz K7-Pro BACK!

But alas, my V5 is sitting in the trash can.

I tried to "hot" flash it by running the flash utility after booting with a PCI card, removing it, and installing the V5 while still on. I had the flash proggy primed and hit enter to restore my original 1.03f bios.

Unfortunately the V5500 is deader than shit and it wouldn't even power up enough to accept the bios flash.

DAMN YOU NUANGEL X3DFX liars. I ran your pet flash utility and it screwed a perfectly good video card.

All I wanted to do was update the bios to see if I could finally run MS Crimson Skies on the V5.

Money's tight so it looks like the backup machine will just have to wait for Santa before I can use it again.

Grumble,

Brian H.
