The modern day Backyard Mechanic should have a laptop and cable link hookup and some software for tweaking. All I hope will be downloadable from the interent somewhere...
A couple of mechanic's I've mentioned it to have warned me off it - but I never let sleeping dogs lie and will keep searching until I find something....Of course there's always the possibility that your could fry something and then be up for a major repair - but hey...that goes for most thing car related - even the type of coolant you use...
I was looking at doing Playstation pirate cips...(only joking)....and the EPROM in my DVD player can be hacked and moded as required too - interested in how to get into the code etc...and make a couple of chips for backup....blah..blah...blah...
$300 is a little on the Exxie side though....thought maybe a serial port cable and an appropriately wired socket would do the job...
