A hub is a non-descript connection to all computers on a network and all data are transmitted to all ports at all times. A switch requires static IP addresses for each computer on the network whereas a router has DHCP capabilities meaning that the IP addresses inside the network are assigned dynamically. This has nothing to do with a firewall that assigns stateful packt inspection.
