Millions of laptops are run through airport security checks every day, the x-ray scanner does not destroy them. In fact under normal circumstances it won't even expose camera film, which is far more sensitive to x-ray radiation.

By way of personal experience, I took my laptop with me from Denver to Portland last December and it was fine both ways.

However, make sure your battery is charged, now that security has been stiffened severely you most likely will have to power up the machine and demonstrate that it is a real, working unit (as opposed to a dummy shell stuffed with C4).
