All you people who have used ME and had such a horrible time with it probably didn't disable system restore, installed the OS with ACPI support, installed un-needed drivers, or just didn't take the time to download the few updates for it which by the way are very few vs Win98SE or Win2k.

I've got Windows ME running on several PC's at my house and not a single one of them has acted strange on me. I of coarse did a clean install, didn't install the OS with ACPI support, and the only VIA driver I installed was the 4.05c AGP Driver. Then I enabled DMA (using the default MS IDE Busmaster Drivers), rebooted and installed the rest of my hardware drivers. I also set the Power Scheme to "Always On" and "Never" for Standy and Turn Off HDD. If I want my PC to go to sleep I simply shut off the PC.

This type of setup has lasted me well over a year without a single re-install. I never experience a BSOD unless it's caused by user error (like removing the CD from the drive while in use & causing the BSOD "make sure the disk is inserted in the drive and hit enter") I've had a few games make my PC lockup (poor programming or just a buggy game), but just like Win2k after a few seconds instead of the PC staying locked up it simply returns me to the desktop where I can re-load the game and continue to use the PC without a single reboot.

I wouldn't stick up for an OS if it crashed on me all the time, lost my settings, refused to bootup, or made me loose important data. I also use Win2k for work, but at home I'll stick with Windows ME.

Cheers,

Best4x4
