with preinstalled ME, all of which were totally hosed within 2 months. Same for some HP systems some friends of mine bought. I agree that there are some systems that take it quite well but on average, I almost have the feeling it was released to show off the unreliability of any Win9x system to plan the road for XP.

And, BTW, I didn't upgrade either, clean installs in all cases that lasted 5 days and 10 days respectively until the OS was so hosed that I couldn't even boot into Windows anymore. Granted, this is a socket7 system, not SuperSocket7 but in Win98, as stated above, a single crash in 4 months would make me really unhappy.

One thing I really like about Win9X is the ability to see everything on the network without too many hassles. This is definitely a downside of W2K, either it won't find the other machines unless you specify the computer name or else, W9X won't see the W2K machine at all without having been granted admin privileges.

XP, yep, SP1 could make it into a real OS, but so far I keep flooding M$ with error messages (hehe)
