I have been doing this since I got windows2000...NT did it too. I use SCSI drives, and the CPU impact is unnoticable...I also get sustained transfers of about 55 MB/sec. I think with IDE drives the CPU utilization would be damn hars though (in fact with more than 2 SCSI drives, it begins to make an impact).
