If you ONLY want to overclock, a free limited-function version of PowerStrip called Performance Tuner allows just clocking. Get it here.

The trick to not locking yourself out of Windows is to test various resolutions but do NOT set the "apply on boot" option until you are certain that a particular setting is stable. If you accidently screw that one up, even Safe Mode won't save you, I discovered; you have to boot to DOS mode and then delete (and re-install) the Performance Tuner utility.
