Okay, boot the computer using a Windows98 boot floppy.

At the command prompt, type:

SYS C:

The computer will be busy for a moment, then return

System Transferred

...at which point the Win2k boot loader has been removed from the boot sector. The machine will boot straight to Windows 98. You may also need to delete a couple bootloader-related files (not sure what they are called on Win2k; with WinNT4 they are NTLDR, NTDETECT.COM, and BOOT.INI).

Again, if the presence of the boot loader is your ONLY problem, this will get rid of it.
