No problem, if the quality is there you can mix single and double sided DIMMs, the only difference is how many physical banks are occupied. With SDRAM, there is no difference in speed between single and double bank DIMMs, with DDR, you need to set the command latency higher (when you overclock double sided DIMMs). If your system goes bananas, it could be either a loading issue (too much drain on the power pins) or else simply a bad DIMM.

The usual culprits for power-related issues are Samsung MTech and Micron chips, particularly on generic brand DIMMs where there is little quality control.
