after flashing the new bios I tried clocking again.
Could be imagination but it seems to be marginally improved as I got my 800eb to about 942MHz at the default voltage and could still run windows. Previously it hung at 930 MHz and I had to tweak the volts to get past it. It hung at 948 MHz however and I chickened out.
In addition the memory bus seems to be better, as I had 256 Mb Mushkin pc133 cas2 memory running 2,2,2 (7,9) at a FSB of 148 without much bother, wheras previously it was a bit troubled at higher clocks over 145 FSB at 2,2,2.
Sisoft gave memory bench top score of
ALU 386
FPU 449
at 888 Mhz @ 148 fsb x6 which comfortably beat the figures for PC800 Rambus on a 1 gig p3 setup.
CPU gave acceptable figures
Dhry 2451
Whet 1188
and the IDE ATA100 (IBM 75GXP 15 Gb) was improved from a Sisoft index of 21,499 (new setup) up to 22,540 which is plus approx 5%. While the ATA66 comparison was in the 13,000 range ie only 57% of the ATA100.
a bit of life in the old dog yet
