I've Q-tipped plenty of CD lenses, too. Never had
a problem. True, you've got to be careful when
you're doing it.....but I figure anybody that's
got enough sense to pull their player apart to try
to fix it, can probably figure out that you're not
going to be able to clean it with a hammer and chisel.
As far as the static sensitivity goes.....the
Q-tip is wet. Shouldn't be a problem, as long as
the player is sitting on the computer case, it's
still plugged in (but not turned on, including the
mains switch for an ATX supply, if it's got one),
and you've touched the case within the last few
seconds. Oh, yeah....and don't fix it sitting on
the floor with nylon carpet.
