This is where it gets weird I would bet you have some bad sectors either in the first partition that points to the second partition or more then likely in the beggining of second partition.
The only thing is the program I would use for your problem is SpinRite 5 from Gibson FTL but the drive needs to be formated I believe, Norton & Scandisk do not tests the sectors out well enuf to get rid of all the bad sectors in the first pass where as SpinRite does. If DOS can see a partition then SpinRite will work. I would partition the HD as 7.5 / 7.5 then try spinrite on it.

I have had a real bad HD ( I dropped about 1 1/2 feet) that any HD tester would freeze when it got to the bad sectors so I used ScanDisk surface test to find the bad sectors & used Norton disk edit to mark the cluster bad that the sector was in & moved on to the next bad group, the sectors seemed to be mirrired (2 to 4 bad clusters in a group) & the HD's firmware seemed to freak out on these sectors. After scandisk would run to the end of the HD. Then the HD worked normal I used this HD for over 9 months on my babied internet computer. Spinrite did not work on this HD as it still wanted to look on the clusters marked bad even thou it was not set to recover them. The only thing is I never used spinrite to fix a large HD 1.3 gig was the max. so far & that is good news for me.

There is hope but it will take along time

Bob
