Even DOS does not like copying non existance files
but the DOS GUI I used was Norton Commander & this
program had no problems with making or saving empty files. I used this trick to put notes on disks or in subdirs without using any of the data
where the programs are stored. The root of a subdir can only hold 512 filenames, but any subdir
can as many as you need.

Another trick if you reduce the filenames on a floppy you will gain alittle more data area.
