I just got off the phone after calling AMD support. They agreed (without any pressure I might add) to replace my 1GHz chip with a 900 MHz one. Better than nothing! I guess my loyalty to them gets rewarded this time.

And the moral of the story: Avoid Super Orb on Tbirds. Try volcano II instead.
