The more you have, the greater the chance of problems. Zip drives are well known as source of many headaches.
From a DOS boot disk, with my Zip drive in I can not see my harddrive(s) at all! Not on my old M748LMRT OR on my nice new Abit KT7 RAID with RAID0! I have to unplug the IDE cable or disable that IDE channel.
All you really need is RAM and your video card. Run the install all the way through. Restart, shutdown, then install modem or sound or whatever. One at a time is best.
Also, good idea to use Norton's Ghost (or like it) to image c: before adding extras. This way, next format has fast reinstall.
