I get about 60fps typical in Q3A, although in Excessive Overkill mod it slows way down. I usually run 32-bit and 1024x768 resolution, on a Tbird Athlon @ 800MHz. HalfLife is generally smooth.

Try using NVidia's Detonator 6.35 drivers for the video card, also boot to Safe Mode and look at the device manager for duplicate and shadow entries. Any time you find duplicates, delete all instances and let Windows find the correct device on reboot.

Make sure your hard drives are defragged.

Also one thing that really helps the MX is to overclock the memory. I use the Powerstrip Performance tuner, go the 3DFiles.com downloads section and look for PERFTUNE.EXE. Tweak up your memory settings, test both Windows stuff AND 3D games until the system begins to act wacky. Then go back to the last STABLE setting and checkmark the "apply on boot" box so that the new setting will be applied automatically when you boot windows.
