I used Maxtor's own software to do the low-level format, so I'm assuming it's actually doing it properly. I think I've figured out the problem, though. For some reason, I think the computer thinks the disk is bigger than it actually is, just by a couple of LBA numbers. So the media descriptor, (is it at the end of the partition, BTW??) can't be read for the last partition on the drive. I just set the extended partition to be 8MB less than the total space, and I guess I just live with tossing a few MB. Sh!t happens, I guess. |
