k6-2 400 with pcchips m598 super 7 m/b

I'm trying to set up a k6-2 400 with the pcchips m598 super 7 m/b with the following (100mhz @ 4.0)

4.3gb HDD
96mb ram (8mb used by onboard Graphics)
56pci conexant modem
Windows 98se

I'm just using the onboard video and sound (not to be a powerful machine just a cheap upgrade from a pr100)

The problem I have is that 9 out of 10 times the computer freezes on the windows 98 splash screen. The cpu and board temperature seem fine and once it does boot there is no problems. But it tends to be a cycle of freeze, power down and up, safe mode, restart, and then boots as normal. I've tried disabling the logo and checking all connections and hardware settings but just can't seem to find the prob.

Any help, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm in a hurry to get this system going.
