Background

In HL you played scientist Gordon Freeman. In Op4 you played soldier Adrian Shephard. Now in BS (hehe be kind ), you play Barney (in this case Mr. B. Calhoun), one of the ubiquitous blue uniformed guards running aroung Black Mesa (note: Barney is the skinny guard while Otis is the fat one). Your mission is to get the heck out of Dodge with your skin intact, just like everyone else.

The Big Problem: Bang for the Buck

Ok, I got through the game in three hours. Frankly, it's too short. For $35, I expect more play time. Luckily, I traded in a few games when I went to EB and only paid $18 which is about what it's worth.

The Nitty Gritty

The puzzles are good and so is the fighting (but no ninja babes!). Ending is weak: no big boss like the Green Tentacle Guy in Op4 or the Big Floating Baby in the original HL. It's more like an LSD induced flashback (and it's one weird trip). I'd rate it a 3 out of five: directly between excellent and pathetic. Keep in mind that you can download for free levels that IMHO are as good or better. For example: anything by Neil Manke (USS Darkstar, They Live 1-3).
