Remove the board and make sure that it any of it was not making contact with ground somewhere. I've seen a CPU get fried because when it was installed, somebody forgot to remove a screw in the back. Also, it does sound like it could be a CPU problem. Did you try alternating the current chip with one of the others in the good order rigs you built?
