The Bootup time will increase if you use a raid controller. It will take about 5 to 10 seconds extra just to initialize the controller - too much to gain any performance while booting. You will feel a real performance boost only if you use applications that need to read and write on the disks very frequently such as data bases or if you're short on memory and your computer needs to swap all the time - especially when working with huge bitmaps.
