I use the rear window defroster kit method. It comes in a package and usually is gold colered liquid in a small glass vial that can be found at your local autoparts store for under 7 bucks. The pencil trick works as well if you do not want to throw out the funds.
I'm about ready to ship your package but can re open it and throw in some Artic Compound if you like
