It could just be Windows getting hosed. A few things you can try before reinstalling:

Boot to Safe Mode, bring up System Properties and go to the Device Manager tag, expand each tree and delete ALL instances of any duplicate entries you see. Reboot normally and let Windows re-find the correct devices.

Search the web for regclean.exe (it's a Microsoft utility). Run it and let it clear out any garbage in the registry.

Click on the Start Menu and select Run, type "SFC" and let it roll. It may find corrupted system files and ask to repair them.

Finally, run Scandisk and Defrag on your hard drive(s).
