Audio CD's are on their way out...soundz like the argument I went through with the conversion from vinyl...al the audiophiles were talking of the "enhanced ambience and sound stage image you get from vinyl...." not sure if there are any of these peole left or whether they are still making digital masters on good vinyl that doesnt crackle and pop when looked after properly...some people can keep them in this condition....

If you digitally extract your audio from a CD (ie: use the IDE cable and not the analogue hookup) then all the 1's and 0's will be in exactly the same positions as what they were on the original. As long as you dont do any editing on this in a WAV editor, then this should remain. You wont get improvements n this unless your a digital remasterer...then you might squeez something to make it soudn better but thats 1/100,000 people...and they usually make big bucks....

As for burning - data CD's are more important to be burnt correctly than audio CD's...you can miss some of the sound due to erros from an audio CD, but you cant from an excel spread sheet, word document, *.exe program or whatever...so data is paramount. An "audio burning" CDRW??? Get my point...???

If your recording stuff from an analogue source then your sound card is prollie the most important item you can pay for and if you dont have a >$300 sound card (just for the ADC recording chip, then your prollie not really serious about this side of things...ie: digitalising your phono collection for "supremo" quality....

Answer....get all your stuff into mp3 and burn it at 128 or 16kbps....get your self a cheap $150 DVD player that can play mp3 CD's and sell your CD's after digitally recording them through the IDE cable...(easy way to make sure your doing this - get rid of the analogue out cable of the CD).
I practice what I preach...
PS - mp3 will soon be superseded as well as 6 channel (AC3/DD/5.1) will take over in the next 10 years - if not less.

Sorry about the speeling...
