Also, it can take several minutes following boot for two machines to find and "index" each other. Sometimes, if you choose "Start => Find => Computer" and type the name of the other computer, you can get the machines to "find" each other prematurely.

Oh, and you need to have "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed, you have to be using either "Windows logon" or "Client for Microsoft Networks logon", you CANNOT hit esc if the login screen appears after boot (must login with SOMEthing else sharing won't work), and to share files or a printer you must enable File and Print Sharing in Network Properties.
