Ok I tried to duplicate your problems and found that it sort of happens on the HD that uses the VIA bus drivers. The situation with MS defaults went smooth so I got into watch Shawshank Redemption again
My cofig is:
IDE Primary Master= GXP75
Slave=Zen 72X
IDE 2ndary Master=Plextor RW
Slave=16x AOPenDVD
and RAID with broken Stripe so I could check out other drives and yes I use the lastest and Greatest SBlive Drivers. I went with testing it with the 2.55 and 3.0 Power DVD.
