VAIO.. this is a tricky one:
V is for video
A is for Audio
IO is for, you guessed it, input/output ( firewire, memorystick and all that )

Also, in the logo, the VA combination symolizes a sine curve... Forgot what this means... Has probably to do with Audio again or just analoue, in contrast to the all digital world...

These Sonys are certainly really great. But the one major drawback is its price
