they just launched the 1.7GHz Pentium4 on Monday at $352 in volume and cut prices on the rest of the line correspondingly, substantially cheaper than the earlier price of the 1.5GHz model.

As the article there noted, Intel roadmaps had originally been calling for a 1.7GHz launch price in the $700 range.

The current P4 die is relatively large and while both Intel and AMD will take ASP kicks from another price war, Intel will take those kicks right in the groin because current-generation P4s are expensive to make.

Incidentally, AMD's market share is now about 20% from the previous quarter's 17%...
