According to Intel, 64mb was chosen as the standard because NT couldn't handle more than that. It is possible to have an aperture up to 256mb, but this value is chipset specific and set by the BIOS. I'm guessing it's set to 64 max in the BIOS because the Intel i815 chipset won't support any higher. My Asus P3V4X (Via Apollo chipset) would let me go up to 256mb.

They release a new bios for the CUSL2 line about every week, and so far none of them have allowed anything beyond 32/64.
