I don't know about win2000, but I have always had to manually do this for win98. If you didn't, just press the "windows key" + "pause/break" (in the same time). Then select the device manager tab. Then open up the disk drives section and then double click on your drive. Click on the settings tab and make sure that the DMA box is checked. Anyway, this is how you do it for win98 and so I assume it must be similar for win2000.
