After I said the restore slider would not respond and the file was 286 MB, I finally decided the poor old prog needed a clean install, so I was prepping the comp for a C: wipe and lo and behold the threat of certain death seemed to shake the OS out of its stupor and it suddenly reduced restore to 9Mb and the slider was once more available .

Perhaps what happened is that somehow the restore file grew too huge and passed the lower settings for the slider hence it was disabled.

I had earlier hedged my bets by setting a restore point just to see if that cleared up the problem. It didnt do so immdiately, but possibly a delayed reaction to this is what cleared the restore file.

This doesnt explain why the disable check box was marking itself up, so there is still something of a mystery here.
