if necessary, they will have to sell the cards below cost to get, at least, some portion of the R&D costs back in. The situation for nVidia doesn't look so great with the Kyro II becoming more popular among the OEM manufacturers and the crash of their stock value. They will survive, though (hehe) but, on the other hand, the industry is pretty tired of nVidia becoming what Intel used to be about 2-3 years ago, that is, the big bully of graphics chip manufacturers.

Whether the $399 will be realistic or whether the sources close to nVidia have been prepped to make good weather in order to keep investor funding alive is yet another question and the source of this statement was historically not always too accurate with the facts.
